Below is information regarding scholarships at the AZ Thespian Festival. Please read carefully, and make sure you complete all steps necessary by required deadlines.  Good luck!

DEADLINES: All audition materials should be added by the October 12th, 2018 5:00pm registration deadline.

 To even consider auditioning for scholarships:

1. You must be a graduating senior with a 3.0 GPA, weighted.
2. Be an inducted Thespian.
3.  Must intend to major theatre. (minors in theatre are no longer eligible)
4. You must attend a Scholarship Workshop to be eligible. (see below for available dates and locations)
5. You must register on Acceptd at app.getacceptd.com/arizonathespians (Essay scholarship entrants do not need to register on Acceptd)
6. You must fill out the Audition Resume.  

The purposes of Scholarship Auditions at the Arizona Thespian Festival are to compete for the scholarships that Arizona Thespians provide and to perform for the visiting recruiters from various schools and conservatories that attend our festival.

You need to register on  Acceptd. (app.etacceptd.com/arizonathespians)There is a $40.00 fee that will need to be paid online through Accpetd. They accept credit or debit cards.  They are now taking submissions and will stop taking them at 5:00pm October 12, 2018.

Many college representatives from in state and out of state typically attend our Festival. Auditions must be held on Friday Nov. 16, 2018 so that the college representatives are free to conduct workshops and callbacks on Saturday. There are no exceptions.  Any scholarship/financial aid offers will be entirely at the discretion of the college representatives present, with the exception of the Thespian Scholarships, described below

The Acceptd resume form is the ONLY form that will be given to the college representatives. Head shots can be offered during individual interviews.

PART 1:  SCHOLARSHIP/AUDITION WORKSHOP
We offered the first session at camp. Starting this year, workshops will be available online.  Sponsors and students must complete a session.

NEW THIS YEAR, THE SCHOLARSHIP “WORKSHOP”  WILL BE OFFERED ONLINE.  THE LINK IS BELOW.

NOTE:  Leadership Camp- July 10-13, 2018. Camp Shadow Pines- If you attended the Scholarship Audition workshop at camp, you have fulfilled the requirements

PART 2:  COMPLETE RESUME ONLINE
Go to getacceptd.com/arizonathespians, the world’s largest arts network, and complete your resume. You will need to create a login to do this, and then follow the instructions. Students must pay the $40.00 fee to Acceptd.   They accept credit and debit cards. This is not paid through your school or AZ Thespians. Resumes must be submitted by October12th, 2018 5:00pm. You will be expected to upload a picture along with the resume.

PART 3:  SPONSOR REGISTERS YOU
Sponsor must register you for Scholarship Auditions under the Events tab in the Online Registration system.  See your sponsor to make that you are signed up and ready to go.  Please pay attention to deadlines.  Help your sponsor out by gently reminding them.

AUDITION GUIDELINES
  1. Must be a graduating senior to audition.
  2. Only three (3) Thespians per school are allowed to audition.
  3. Download the PERFORMANCE STANDARDS POLICY FORM.  Give to your teacher and have them turn it in at the time of registration on November 16.
  4. Students may audition in ONLY ONE of the following areas:
    1.  Vocal Only or Vocal/Acting: Prepare two One-Minute Selections or a One-Minute Vocal Selection & One-Minute Acting Selection,
    2.  Acting Only: two One-Minute Selections.
    3.  Technical: Prepare a Five-Minute Portfolio Presentation
  5. NO TBA Selections are allowed. Students must have their selections listed, including play or song titles/authors.
  6. A burned CD in CD-R format, containing only your selection for vocal auditions, is MANDATORY and is the only acceptable form of accompaniment. (You may have your music as an MP3 as a back up only) The State Board will provide a CD player and operator. A CAPELLA auditions are NOT allowed. YOU MUST PERFORM IN ORIGINAL KEYS.
  7. Auditioners are allowed up to set up for the scene and a short introduction of themselves. A chair is allowed and will be provided. Absolutely no props are allowed.  Do NOT use this time to give a synopsis of your scene. State your full name, the title(s) of your piece(s), playwright(s), and character(s). (Act and Scene are optional.)
  8. Time restrictions will be strictly followed. You will be stopped at 2 minutes!
  9. The acceptd.com resume form is what the college representatives receive, so make it look professional.
  10. Your sponsor must certify that the information on your accepted resume is true and s/he worked with you on your piece by registering you for Scholarship Auditions under the Events tab in the Online Registration system.
  11. Costumes, props, and special makeup are NOT allowed.
  12. Be punctual and dress professionally. Auditions begin shortly after registration on Friday and will likely continue through the afternoon and evening. Auditioners will most likely NOT be able to attend the Friday main stage and might NOT have time to go to dinner with their troupe. Please plan accordingly.
  13. Audition sessions are CLOSED to ALL spectators, including sponsors and parents.

 

SCHOLARSHIPS and CRITERIA OFFERED BY AZ THESPIANS:

Eight scholarships may be given out at the AZ Thespian Festival by the State Thespian Board. Six of these require an audition and three require an essay. All scholarships are provided as “Book Scholarships.” All scholarship applicants, both audition and essay, must have at least a 3.0 GPA and be an inducted Thespian.

ESSAY SCHOLARSHIPS – Please see the individual application forms for more information. Students must be a Senior and an inducted Thespian to be eligible for essay scholarships.

Amy Bennett Memorial Music Theatre Scholarship $1500 (Available to any student intending to major or minor in MUSICAL theatre)

Technical Theatre Scholarship $1500 (Available to any student intending to major in technical theatre or production)

Ovation Scholarship $1500 (Available to any student intending to major in theatre.)

CRITERIA: The Audition Scholarships are awarded using the following formula based on the information provided in the Audition Resume:

Talent/Portfolio: 30%

Resume: 20%

Thespian/Troupe Involvement: 20%

Grades (GPA, SAT, ACT) 20%

Personal Interview 10%
